(Bush) Fireworks for NYE.

While we're all out celebrating the end of 2006,spare a thought for firefighters and residents in Victoria and South Australia, who are still battling blazes.
According to the DSE site 30 new fires started today alone, mainly due to lightning strikes.
Further CFA updates are available here.
Someone didn't prepare the usual script for this chap who stated -
“The rain did a lot to quieten them down, but they're significant fires, there's a lot of fuel in the area and they will be going for some time. We're prepared for a long campaign.”
"A lot of fuel in the area" ???
Would that be the fuel that wasn't reduced by those supposedly managing our National Parks ?

Forest/bush fires really bring me down. In the past five years I've seen the mountain side that I live by burn up several times. Three times from idiot teenagers and fireworks and the other, the biggest one, was from a homeless man who just wanted to be arrested so he had a place to stay. That one was started just above my place of work and burned an incredible amount of square feet of forest, shrub, and grass land.

Fires are so damn scary, the sheer power that generates them is overwhelming.I can't understand the mind of an arsonist-there has to be a basic vital neuron link or chemical missing.
